Getting Here
There are two roads into Swanage: via Wareham and Corfe Castle along the A351, or from Studland via the chain ferry from Bournemouth and Poole. Both are very picturesque. Once in town, head for the seafront, then follow the tourist signs for Durlston Country Park. At the top of the hill, where Durlston Road meets Bon Accord Road, you'll find The Mount on the corner on your right by the post box. If you start heading downhill again, you've gone too far…
Once here…
As its name suggests, The Mount sits high above Swanage to the west of the town near Durlston Country Park. It's a 10-15 minute walk downhill into town to the nearest shops and sandy beach and a steep 15-20 minute walk back up. There are a number of routes into town, but we love the grassy, clifftop walk over The Downs. If you have any shopping to buy we would suggest driving. There is a car park at the Coop store – £1.20 to park for an hour in the summer, but you can claim this back when you pay at the till. If you'd rather stroll down to the shops, however, there are taxis at Swanage Station ready to run you and your groceries up to the house ( £3.50 fare). And during the summer there is a little bus from the station to Durlston Country Park which stops near the property.
